Lake Macquarie/Newcastle Region Set to Benefit...

The Lake Macquarie and Newcastle region is set to benefit to the tune of $20m in the first year of Lake Mac Airlines operations, while the airline is forecasting up to 25 direct new jobs will be created in Lake Macquarie and Sydney.

Lake Mac Airlines expects more than 90% of their passengers will connect from/to international and domestic flights at Sydney Airport providing both inbound and outbound travelers with a hassle free air connection and greater access to the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle region.

It is expected that more than 13,500 domestic and international visitors with use the air service in it's first year generating more than $11.2m in indirect economic activity from both business and leisure travelers that use Sydney Airport to connect from across Australia and the world. In addition to this, Lake Mac Airlines forecast more than 11,500 trips will be taken by local residents with the airline generating more than $8.8m in direct economic benefits.

When this service was operated by Aeropelican between 1971 - 2005 it grew to carry between 86,000 and 92,000 passengers every year while offering up to 17 return services each day between NSW's two largest cities. Lake Mac Airlines expects to carry a fraction of this traffic and will provide greater and faster access to our region to help support, among others, our tourism, manufacturing, mining and healthcare sectors from people visiting our region.

With the Western Sydney International Airport scheduled to open in 2026, Lake Mac Airlines is already planning for growth, and with it, further economic benefits for the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle areas. In fact, Lake Mac Airlines believes regional economic benefits will exceed $30 million annually by 2026 through the addition of new services to Sydney Kingsford Smith and Western Sydney International airports.

There is no doubt that the re-establishment of the Lake Macquarie to Sydney commuter air service will deliver significant benefits for the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle region while providing thousands of international, domestic and local travelers with a convenient service that has proven to be popular in the past.
